Description: The unit features a total of 40 beds. Patient ratios are as follows: 1:5 for Step-Down, 1:6 for MedSurg, and 1:5 if combined days and nights. The goal is to maintain a free charge with typically 1-2 CNAs based on volume during both day and night shifts. Key types of equipment in use include Baxter IV pumps. Documentation is performed using a specific system. Scheduling requires working every other weekend with no on-call shifts. Assistance with holidays is also expected. Floating to other units within the skill set is an anticipated aspect of the role. The unit prioritizes patient safety and care above all. Preferred qualifications include a minimum of 2 years of recent MedSurg, Telemetry (remote), and Step-Down experience. Candidates should possess a well-rounded background to care for patients with diverse diagnoses. Charge Nurse experience or a willingness to take on leadership responsibilities is advantageous. The focus of the unit is on admission assessments, medication reconciliation, and initiating acute care orders for admitted patients. This refined process aims to reduce overall length of stay and improve the patient and family experience. The role involves minimal bedside procedures due to the nature of the unit. Staffing flexibility is designed to enhance clinical operations across various units. Additional opportunities may arise in Telemetry and as transport nurses for the Emergency Department. The Telemetry team oversees patient safety and ensures timely placement on telemetry as needed. Transport nurses play a crucial role in moving higher acuity patients, allowing bedside nurses to provide continuous care in the Emergency Department. This initiative promotes enhanced throughput and operational efficiency. Many travel nurses have expressed their desire to extend assignments, citing positive experiences while working within the team.
