They support undergraduate students across a variety of courses by guiding them through brainstorming, outlining, drafting, organizing, and revising. Tutors give feedback on writing, mechanics, grammar and style, but do not edit or write for others. They may also assist with developing and facilitating writing workshops or events. Team members attend weekly or biweekly training focused on writing content and tutoring practices. Responsibilities Facilitate student learning by helping students understand their learning process and modeling metacognitive strategies Provide writing support through one‑on‑one consultations (in‑person, online, and asynchronously via e‑mail), listening to students’ ideas, reviewing drafts, offering feedback, and discussing assignments Provide basic guidance about American English, explaining relevant aspects of grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, academic style, and cultural norms Plan and facilitate occasional writing workshops or events for small groups or classes Serve as a liaison between departments and CTL writing services Actively participate in CTL training and professional development opportunities Create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment Perform administrative responsibilities per CTL and UNM guidelines Preferred Qualifications Excellent verbal and written communication Commitment to serving others through compassionate and effective support Availability to work Monday‑Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Ability to provide both in‑person and virtual support Bi‑ or multilingual (English‑Spanish, or English‑other language) Application Requirements Submit a recommendation from an instructor or faculty member who can speak to your strengths with writing and providing effective feedback Submit a writing sample that best represents your work as a writer Applicants from all majors and disciplines are encouraged to apply Application Instructions Only applications submitted through the official UNMJobs site will be accepted.
